Mikail Mamedov, December 4

The Russian History Seminar will hold its next meeting of the 2015-2016 academic year on Friday, December 4, 5:00pm-6:15pm in ICC 662 on the Georgetown University campus. Mikail Mamedov will present his paper, “Reading Aylisli’s Stone Dreams on the 100th Anniversary of the Great Catastrophe.” The paper is an exploration of the Azeri encounter through literature with the Armenian genocide in 1915, and is timed to coincide with this year’s centenary.


Mikail Mamedov (GU PhD 2010) is an independent scholar in Washington DC who has taught at Georgetown University and George Mason University. Mamedov has been the recipient of grants from IREX and SSRC. He is a specialist in the Russian imperial encounter with the Caucasus in the nineteenth century, and is the author of an influential article, "'Going Native' in the Caucasus: Problems of Russian Identity, 1801-64." Russian Review 67, no. 2 (2008): 275-95.
